Week 14
Cleaning Up

This week was mainly focused on cleaning up and polishing the components that I feel are my strongest. I made improvements to both the “How AI Shows Emotions” chatbot and the Personalities Chatbot interface as I move towards the final prototype.

“How AI Shows Emotions” Chatbot

At the moment, I still think this is my strongest component, so I wanted to polish it a bit more for the final prototype. Initially, I had the emotion “excited” in the range of emotions, but because the range was so small, I decided to keep it to the basic six emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust, and surprise. I removed excited-ness and added disgust and surprise.

I made the noise in the background visuals just a bit more reactive to the values given from the AI so users can see the differences better. I also finally managed to add a user input field that is interactive! I’ve been trying to add this for a couple of weeks now, but it wasn’t working until now.

I arranged the text so the output is right in the centre, and the input from the user goes above it. I didn’t like how flat the text was initially, so I played around with effects and blending modes to make it more dynamic. My biggest worry is that it may be too illegible because of the constantly moving background, so I had to spend a while adjusting the blending values to balance the depth of colour with legibility.

Next week, I will work on the documentation of the prototype.

Personalities Chatbot

Right now, I have managed to get the responses from each personality to sound a bit more natural, each with its own set of texting rules. For example, Playful uses more exaggerated punctuation like “???” or “!!!” and might use emojis, while Stoic doesn’t exaggerate and is straight to the point.

I also made it so the texting time in between each bubble varies from personality to personality. Stoic sends very fast replies, while Thoughtful takes a bit longer, as if it needs time to think.

I wanted to give it a temporary and more presentable interface on the website for my catalogue while I work on the UI with the face. It is very simple for now and uses a lot of boxes and striking colours.
