Week 11
Open Studios Prep
First thing on my priority list was finishing the bear. I managed to get the eye animation working better. Instead of using three different distances, I now only use one. The animation plays when a distance of 20cm or less is detected, which makes it feel a lot smoother.
I also decided to place the bear on a platform so the distance sensor can sit underneath the wooden board. Initially, I planned to hide everything inside the box, but I realised the main artefact should be elevated and given more focus.
Letting it sit on its own also makes it easier for people to notice and understand it at a glance when they walk by.
The next thing I worked on was documentation. I took videos and photos, and created an explainer video that gives context to the project at the start, what I’m making, and what the project invites.
I approached the publication in a similar way, but instead of just explaining the outcome, I wanted it to show how I got from point A to point B. It’s meant to help people understand my rationale, how I arrived at certain decisions, and what I took away from the process.
